Need to consolidate my computers
#1
Hello everyone

I want to try and just have the one computer to meet all needs.

At the moment I have a toshiba satellite centrino duo laptop, which I use for surfing the next, emails, office 2010 and playing games Total War etc.

I also have the Zotac ND22 for xbmc (currently using open elec)

Because my media is currently on 2 external 2tb drives, my set up is not as tidy as I would like. So I am think about building a new computer to combine everything I need into one PC.

This is what I am looking at and was wondering what everyone thought

Processor: Intel Core i5 2500K 3.3GHz £159.67
Graphics Card: Asus GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB £178.60
Motherboard: Asus P8P67 Pro R3 £123.74
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) £49.98
Case & PSU: Coolermaster CM690 II Lite with Coolermaster GX 650W PSU £97.99
CPU Cooling: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev 2 £15.09
WiFi Adaptor: Tenda Wireless-N300 PCI Adapter £10.49

I intend to use the SSD currently in my ND22, to store windows 7 and xbmc. I also intend to take the two external drives out of their cases and use them as internal drives, or possibily use them for back up.

I know both the processor and graphics card are a little over the top my xbmc and 1080p playback, but I want to be able to play games at a decent frame rate and resolution.

With this set up, I think there should some healthly room to overclock too, if needed.

What do people think ?

well, what can i say,,,

yes its a total OverKiLL for XBMC & 1080P playback,,,

But since you wanna game on it, its a whole different scenario here,,,

What you need to narrow down is which games you wanna run,,,

CYSIS-1? CYSIS-2? DIABLO3?

then, do you want them to play at 1080P 60FPS MAX DETAILS?

Hello Eskro

I hoped you would come across my thread.

I was thinking of

Formula One 2010
Total War - Shogun 2
Star Trek Online
Various FPS - Call of Duty, Battlefield 3
Flight sims

At the highest FPS and Resolution as I could afford.

I have some spare cash at the moment, so I wanted to get the best set up I could afford (£600 - £700) for now and the days and the games to come.

What are your thoughts

Took the plunge today and placed my order for the above. I decided to go for the asus z68 pro instead of the p67 and gone with the coolermaster scout storm case with a coolermaster 700w modular psu.

I've been looking at almost the exact same config for a planned gaming rig. Let me know how it turns out!
Asus AT5IONT-I in an A+ CUPID-3 + 2TB Seagate LP + 16GB SSD + Ubuntu + Samba + XBMC

:-(

Had a little set back. My new build will not post. There is a light on the motherboard indicating that there is a problem with the CPU. However, after reading a few sites it might be a problem with the CPU.

I will return both tomorrow for replacements and try again.

I have tried all the usual fixes, such as one stick of ram in different slots, resitting the cpu and clearing cmos etc but no joy.

Thanks Beer40oz, hopefully it will only take a few days to get replacements. Have to go through the process first of speaking with the retailers technical department tomorrow before I can send them back.

I was going to use the ND22 in a different room to access the media stored on my new computer (once it is up and running)
