I've just purchased a pair of 2TB Samsung HD204UI Spinpoint F4EG drives.
They are running in an ubuntu 10 server.
Large reads seem to die about every 5 mins for a few seconds and then continue. This isn't happening with any other drives (many WD's).
Anyone else seen similar or have a fix?
cheers

I had four of these in raid 5, and I didn't have an issue with them. Have you checked the drives for problems with reads/writes? I just sent 4 (3 of 4 I've had a year) back to Samsung on an RMA. They all went corrupt for some reason. Sorry I can't help more, but if you can find a program to check the health of your drive that may help you with an answer.

thanks guys but the drives are "healthy", smart not reporting any problems etc. They just seem to stop transferring data about every 5 mins, then the transfer rate shoots up high as (i'm guessing) the drives internal cache is emptied. Wouldn't normally be a problem but it's causing all sorts of issues for bluray rip playback.

well then, there's nothing you can do except checking if theirs a Firmware available
which 'maybe' could fix your drives behavior and if not,
then, your outta luck,,,
keep it or RMA it,,, if u can
