why the thermaltake case? unless he specifically like it,
the APEC MI-008 is the same thing, and costs $50 on amazon.com...
nobody like it, and i linked it. i suggested it, and i like it.

eskro Wrote:as for the CPU, go for the INTEL G530,
cpubenchmarks.com reveals they are almost identical in CPU Power...
PASSMARK G620: 2487
PASSMARK G530: 2371

save more money, get the G530....
if you preferred g530, go for it but i suggested g620 instead.

eskro Wrote:the motherboard looks good,
but the PowerON/OFF feature, altho working, and wrong mobo link bluray,
CIR Rceiver seems to not have a good range when using it with an Harmony remote,,,
voip-ninja tested it, and thats what he concluded and i trust him,,
however, how's the range doing with the Asrock Smart Remote, i dunno,,,
might not be better either,,,
get this mobo here --> http://goo.gl/u7ts0
i have to admit it, and i did linked to the wrong mobo, but it still can turn on/off with this asrock option- ASRock Smart Remote Controller. I meant to link to this mobo- AsRock H67M-ITX/HT LGA 1155, which included remote controller and receiver.

eskro Wrote:and if u want to powerON/OFF from a total shutdown state,
smiply buy this --> http://goo.gl/nIDX6 but throw the little remote in the garbage...
i'm not sure what it is in the link, but please give it a try and let us know how it turn out. if it can turn on/off htpc, it'll be another cheap solution.

eskro Wrote:GSKILL ram, even tho i have it in my HTPC,
i suggest avoiding it,,,
ask user Beer40onze if he likes GSKILL Tongue
i'd get some Kingstong HyperX or Corsair XMS3
one failure again against 237 perfect 5 eggs and another 5 eggs from me, i'll buy it again. if my calculation is correct, it's almost perfect (.004% failure is good as it get).

eskro Wrote:i'd get this BD-ROM right here
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6827151222
if you preferred samsung bd-rom to save a little money, go for it.

I like that you can get a low powered and yet still powerfull enough HTPC to emulate and play games (Fifa 12 and 2 xbox controllers is a must Big Grin ).

It's powered by a 90W PSU, and a similar HTPC build with standard desktop easily spends twice the amount of power. Am I wrong?

Thats alot of money saved on power consumption if you use it around 6-8 hours a day like I do.

Conclusion:
You can not build a similar and cheaper HTPC by yourself.
Similar for me means:
  • Case size
  • CPU Power
  • GPU Power
  • no 24Hz bug (no Intel GPU)
  • Build in IR (able to power on from off state)
Maybe i forgot some items...

again, i can prove you wrong on the price point. i understand that you may not like the case but that is very subjective view point.

Here is AsRock 3d Vision (barebond):
ASRock Vision 3D

here is my version of 3d vision htpc (barebond) for half of the price, and the spec is slightly higher!

1. case- Apex MI-100 4BAY Desktop Blk/Silver 250W ATX12V Mitx
2. cpu- Intel Core i3-2100 Processor 3.1GHz 3 MB Cache Socket LGA1155
3. mobo- H67M-ITX/HT LGA 1155 Intel H67 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard
4. gpu- MSI N430GT-MD1GD3-OC/LP GeForce GT 430
5. ssd- Patriot Torqx 2 PT232GS25SSDR 2.5" 32GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive
6. ram- G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB 240-Pin DDR3
7. bd-rom- LG Black 12X BD-ROM 16X DVD-ROM 48X

it'll playback 3d and turn on/off htpc!

Again you missed at least one of my items
  • Case size
But i wanna add one additional and very important one: NOISE!
A µATX powersupply in a $50 case has usually a lot of it...
I had a custom made HTPC before I switched to the old Vision 3D and I know what I am talking about. But I got mine with i5 new from ebay for about 750 USD.

as i mentioned above- you may not like the case and the case in my link is merely a couple inches bigger. i think that most users don't mind case size (5.1 x 8.7 x 11.8 inches)

from the seat to the entertainment cabinet, my htpc is dead silent. the only thing i hear are air conditioner and ceiling fan noises.

Huh

you might want to provide link to asrock vision 3d i5 for $750, because somebody in here might be interesting in it too. the cheapest i found are these- ebay asrock vision 3d, newegg asrock vision 3d , amazon asrock vision 3d and superbiiz asrock vision 3d.
