Can't find keymap.xml / keyboard.xml files
#1
Hi there,

I want to edit my keyboard.xml files to add some more functions to my Logitech remote.

According to the wiki (http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=Keymap.xml) the files should be stored in the following 2 folders;

Windows global: C:\Program Files\XBMC\userdata\keymaps\
Windows user specific: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\XBMC\userdata\keymaps\

However when I check these folders I see the keymaps folder in both directories but both are empty.

On my HTPC i'm running Dharma release but on my main PC i have eden installed so I checked both folders on my main PC as well. But also on my main PC these keymap folders are both empty.

Is this normal and should I download a xml file or should it contain an xml file?
At the moment the remote is working fine and can do all basic functions but I want to add more functions.

It's normal that it's empty. The idea is that when needed you create your own .xml files following the guidelines in the wiki.
The best way to do this is to download notepad++.
Create the files you need using this easy to use editor.

Ok thanks for the clarification.

One another question; Can I just create a new file and type the command I need or do I need to edit a whole new sheet for all the commands?

Just the commands you need.
XBMC will first look through the files you create and then the files that came with XBMC. Yours have higher priority than the original so you can overide original commands.

Grab KeyMapEdit from http://xbmcmce.sourceforge.net/. This makes editing key mapping files a lot easier and it will even automatically put the mapping file in the correct place.
