ATV2 - SMB & Time Machine
#1
My setup is a ATV2 with XBMC, also i have Mac Mini (LION) & Time Machine.

The problem now....

I can see with no problem the video files located in a shared folder
on my Mac Mini but i cant play them with an error Play failed or something
similar.

On the other hand everything located on the time machine plays like a dream,
no problems at all.

What is different and why i have that problem i have no idea... any help?

Forgot to say everything is connected with UTP and not wireless.

What didn't work? Basically you just need to make sure you are using the latest nightly builds and use AFP instead of SMB. Right now XBMC can't use Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) as a SMB server, but it can use AFP, which is Apple's native file sharing protocol. The Time Capsule router also supports AFP.

Hmmm nightly builds eh...

No i havent done this successfully, tried but for some reason ailed to install
nightly build... do you know any GOOD walkthru?

For now as a temporary solution XBMC can see directly without any prob my
Time machine disk (xbmc seems to override totally the osx Nod).

Ok i just discovered like many of us the reset bug of xbmc me too, also i tried (under lion) to log by ATV2's
IP and for some reason i didnt accept the password.

Found the solution by logged in by name (ssh apple-tv.local) and now accepted the pass!!!

Then did the drill again about the nightly builds and everything went smooth...

If you ask me if reset problem solved? Well havent tried yet, ill let you know when i do.

After the last success of installing the nightly build everything seems fixed,
and when i said i MEAN IT... including the sharing between the Mac (afp).

Thanx all for the help & your time.
