turning my old PC into a NAS
#1
My old PC is running out out sata ports. I got an old Abit NF7-Sv2 with two SATA ports. I want to change this into a NAS but my mobo does not support booting with USB. Is it still possible to change it into a NAS?

Any recommendations for a PCI SATA card controller for under $30 in Canada?

Here are my computer specs:

-AMD Athlon XP Barton Mobile 2500+ (1.83ghz)
-ABIT NF7-S v2
-OCZ 2x1GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM
-Samsung 512MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM
-WD-1001FALS 1TB SATA2 32MB Buffer 7200RPM
-WD HD WD800JB-00FMA (80GB IDE)
- WD WD20EARS Caviar Green 2TB SATA2 3Gbps 64MB
-ATI All-in-Wonder 9800 PRO 128MB
-Antec SLK250 with a 350W PS(SmartPower)

Any old crap can be easily turned into a NAS. Easily with FreeNAS, or with a little more work using a Linux distro of your choice + Samba (my home server Cool)
It all depends on your needs and willingness to get your fingers into it.

For hardware, there's a few options here:
