I assume it's the remote control device that gets registered and unregistered.

This problem also cropped up for me after updating to the latest nightly.
XBMCSetup-20110930-2138fb0-master
I am infact using a Remote control and it is still working without any problems but the HID message keeps popping up, going away, coming back, etc etc
i found a new menu setting called "devices" where quite a few show up.

Not a "me too", but I would like to add that for me, the popup won't go away. There was a lot of BS here as well, but that was due to a network failure. In the end it had nothing to do with this popup. Sorry.
If it'll help: I'm using a Microsoft MCE remote infrared receiver icw a Logitech Harmony One.
CoreElec on a tn95 (s905x). Onkyo NR-656. Canton Movie CD-1000. LG 55B6V.
If it ain't broke: break it, fix it, repeat
