AMD or Intel graphics on Linux yet?

I have been pricing some new systems but am not sure if the amd apu or intel i3 graphics are fully supported by linux yet or you still need a Nvidia gpu.
Do either do dxva (or whatever linux calls it) on ubuntu or live?

The nvidia next gen does VDPAU for sure. (Hardware acceleration)

I would avoid ATI like the plague on linux.

As for the Intel - I just built a Core i3 (sandybridge) PC for use with xbmc-live. Had some serious crash issues, so I ended up buying a 430GT - problem solved. Intel linux support is not there yet.

You can see my frustrations here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=108860

Thats what I thought. One day we will be able to use tiny mITX systems on xbmc live or openelec (with decent performance unlike atom). Until then I will stay windows.
Thanks for the help!

With Linux the Atom provides very decent performance (of course together with a Nvidia ION GPU). Just because Windows is slow on an Atom that doesn't mean that Linux is too!

Also if you really want more performance than an Atom with Linux, you can still get a Zotac GF9300 mobo with a core2duo cpu, might be slightly old now, but is still as fast as many brand new cpus.

Intel is out. They don't have decent Windows drivers anymore.

AMD is almost there. It has come a long way. It is not easy yet in XBMC Live (like "Just Works" Nvidia-style), but if you put in the effort it will play your files. My only holdup is the lack of the equivalent of VDPAU Color Correction.
