xbmc can act as a DLNA server, just enable it in settings.

I have only tested this with my girlfriend's iphone, it worked great. Some features like "show only unwatched" would be useful.

However, if you will do this a lot you may want transcoding which is not available in xbmc. In the future I will probably use a separate service on the server. Perhaps media tomb.

Thanks

so i take it media tomb is more lighter then XBMC. How would i know if Sony HD Media Player box or any box like this would work with Media Tomb and XBMC?
what am i looking in the product spec for to be able to do this?

Thanks

I am not sure if it is lighter on the server and I am not an expert on media tomb.

What xbmc cannot do is to transcode the media on the fly which in necessary if the client cannot handle all the formats that you have on disk or if you want to stream in a lower resolution due to bandwidth restrictions.

Why not start by enabling dlna on xbmc and see how it goes?
