got my new Harmony 650 remote!

Further (mucking about) experimentation:

Tried half a dozen other combinations from the Remote control review..
http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Rem...ol_Reviews

To cut down on the crap, the only one that was nearly successful with the full set of commands was the HP Pavilion HDX Remote .

Even using the same settings of my PC remote/unbranded didn't map properly to my Harmony.. although the wiki says otherwise
Computer>>Media Center PC>>Chinavasion>>CVSB-983
Nothing happened for me. Pressing any of the Harmony's buttons didn't do anything.
I actually have this remote (or a clone) and not a single keystroke registers through the Harmony..

Eskro: here's an ebay link to a receiver that looks like mine..
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Remote-Control-U...336cfc7ae2

Here's another with the exact model (photo evidence!) and bundled remote

Digital Vortex Wrote:Ok.. the story so far.
My typical remote that works out of the box (I have one of the $10 china specials )
http://wiki.xbmc.orgindex.php?title=Remo...MCE_remote
I used the MyHarmony website to configure the remote initially.. works ok.
I changed it to the MCE Keyboard (I believe it was MCE remote initially, or something similar) and didn't get any joy.
Re-visited this forum, saw the post about the software install, installed it, set up a new account, much easier to manage through this software.
Still no joy with the MCE keyboard.

Selected Microsoft/MCE Remote - ah joy. I pretended I didn't have another remote, and it found a MCE-1036

While I was there, I set up my Logitech Z5500.. kewlies.

Got into XBMC everything working as expected.
Pressing right arrow advances video 30 seconds.. pressing it twice 1 min.. but not getting stuck.
Only thing that was missing was a "backspace" mapped key. Hmm.
To do this I hit the Learn IR button , Learn a New command (very bottom)
point old China at the Harmony bottom end, the backspace mapped key, and selected the 'Previous' (which was a blank entry) to MyNewCommand.
Sorted!

But the thread starter was the MCE Keyboard, so I tried again. Couldn't get any more joy, but dived deeper.. Most of the commands when you go into Customise Buttons are empty! It populates the activites and the LCD screen has individual commands.
I couldn't get the up/down/right etc. to work. The shortcuts/activities worked in Windows Media Center. But even if I pressed 'music' I couldn't scroll through the albums!

Conclusion: MCE Keyboard setting not working "out of the box", but using MCE Remote for the Microsoft model does.

Now what concerns me is I don't have a way to map backspace/tab/ESC without a remote. I can do it for me , as I have my 10 buck special..

To anyone reading this post only.. This was with a Logitech Harmony 650 remote and "HP Media Center" IR receiver/RC6 compatible (model OVU400102/71) HP Part no: 5187-4593

This exercise has disappointed me.. there doesn't seem to be a way to map a Keyboard press to a remote button.. only if you have a remote control with the desired macro (such as Close or Tab)
The close button works great for emulators etc..

Sure there is. let me take some screen shots later. Here's an example mapping tab from MCE keyboard. Guess I'm confused as to wha the problem your having is. I'll do my best and try and help.

but with an HP receiver and harmony setup is fairly easy and requires no other hardware from my experiences.

PLease let me know how I can assist.

I feel we're comparing apples with oranges now.. the screenshot indicates you're playing with a Logitech 900 and us peons are working with 650's.
In my screen - I don't have the Device column option, only the Command column.

Now, I said when I select MCE Keyboard, it doesn't work out of the box. Meaning, I have to manually enter in DirectionRight, Ok for Enter etc.etc.

The problem I've found is that if the direction buttons are pressed, and working.. if I press a Menu/Exit/Info/Guide button (mapped to a keyboard press) the mapped key buttons all stop working.
No response to commands issued from the LCD harmony screen either. Untouched commands such as Mute and Volume Up/Down still work (proving by winamp working in the background!)
Further testing.. it's like I only get about 5-10 seconds of workable remote.. then something happens inside!

Sounds like you maybe going to "Customize Buttons" on MCE Keyboard in the Devices tab, I presume your screen looks like what is at this link http://logitech-en-emea.custhelp.com/app.../related/1

Have you created any Activities yet? if not then this needs to be done.

Make you use the downloaded Harmony software from http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/440/6621?s...=downloads

The steps for setting up a Harmony are:

1. From Devices tab, Add Device - MCE Keyboard, refer to http://logitech-en-emea.custhelp.com/app.../gb,en/kw/

2. From Activities tab, Add Activity - XBMC (for example), make sure this is set to a "Utility" type of Activity, and assign "MCE Keyboard" device to the Activity, refer to http://logitech-en-emea.custhelp.com/app.../related/1

4. From Activities tab, select newly created Activity e.g. XBMC then select "Customize Buttons", that should then give you the screen rufrothy has posted above, refer to http://logitech-en-emea.custhelp.com/app...20Activity

thats weird. I own about 10 harmony remotes including the 650. It works the same on the 650 too.....

yes you have to map the keys on the harmony software.

OK the weridness of the remote stopping working is weird. What OS, what software, are you using event ghost....

just looked. no obvious model# markings on it.

I bought some off ebay when I built the 1st ION rig when they came out. Once I found one that worked I bought a bunch of em.

They do look like these though.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-IR-Wireless-M...7329614421

I paid like 20-30 for em 2-3 years ago. so the price has improved.

Windows 7 64bit, Logitech Harmony software 7.7.0, NO event ghost, HP RC6 receiver..

Update: I tried adding a generic Activity.. no luck for the MCE keyboard.
Settings such as Pwr Toggle actually turn off the machine, and clicking a Radio or something will open Windows Media Center. So there isn't the 5 second cuttoff like my last post. However, even using the LCD screen to send a "C" or "P" (for info and play) doesn't work. The receiver lights up so there is a command being sent, but no action taking place.

Sounds like this Event Ghost is the next part of the equation..
Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of Digital Vortex's dud MCE remote S01e03.avi Wink

In XBMC do you have the option "remote control sends keypresses" enabled? if not it needs to be enabled for XBMC to respond to keyboard commands as emulated by the Harmony.

There is absolutely no need for Eventghost.

Had a tiny win with "Remote control sends keyboard presses".

Up and down worked inside the the System menu. Outside.. nothing. Eek

But then I aimed it different...and guess what.. IT WORKS !

As long as the remote is above the IR receiver.. it all works!

I was always pointing the remote USB port direct to the ir blaster. It works best if the remote is held at 45 degrees..

Weird.. but problem solved. LaughBig Grin

Further testing: works without Remote Sends Keyboard presses too! Rofl
