I want to put XBMC on a non system disk.

Firstly, is this possible/a good idea? And is it really worth the performance of an SSD if its installed to a non system disk? I'm not bothered about a super fast booting machine as it is turned on most of the time.

I think he means he wants to instal xbmc on his 'D:' drive while his OS is on his 'C:' drive which I guess is an SSD.
For what reason is my curiosity...
My first HTPC build
My UnRaid Server
Kingston rebates and ASUS warranties are WORTHLESS FRAUDS

Almost right.

My C:\ drive (system partition) is on a small separate hard drive, and I was considering an SSD for my XBMC install. Regardless of whether or not I get an SSD in the end, I'm wanting to know if its ok to install XBMC to another partition.

Yep, when you first run the installer. You might also want to run XBMC in portable mode to keep your userdata out of C:\Users\... as well.
