new Universal/WMC remote set up
#1
New to XBMC. Running Acer AspireRevo R3700 with Win7. Came with a wireless keyboard and mouse but I am realising that I need a remote.

So have just bought a Logitech Harmony 600. Now trying to find a cheap IR receiver to plug into the Acer HTPC. Does any old Ir receiver work? Can it be one of these:

Any other traps I need to be aware of in getting this working?

The IR dongle needs to be one that the Harmony handset supports. Normally I recommend using an eHome receiver (see http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=Remote_Contr...RC_remotes for a list) but these tend to be a bit slow with the Harmony. Personally I use a Harmony 300 with the receiver from a VRC-1100 (http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=Remote_Contr...s#VRC-1100).

I think the Harmony 600 can be adjusted to improve the delay with eHome receivers. I think it's the inter key delay setting or something like that. If so, the eHome receivers are the ones to go for. My Harmony 300 doesn't allow the inter key delay to be adjusted, which is why I use the VRC-1100 receiver.

If you do get an eHome receiver set your Harmony 600 to be an MCE Keyboard and see http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Usi...in_Windows for how to tweak the receiver.

I've never used an eHome receiver but I have used a USB-UIRT for several years across many apps... currently EventGhost runs my HTPC with XBMC & WMC

I've used several Harmony models (currently the 750) over the past few years. Never a delay, and it all works perfectly.

If you are only using XBMC (no other apps/devices) I suggest just getting a cheap IR receiver + remote combo that is known to work with XBMC.
I'm not an expert but I play one at work.
