Cases (Best space for the $$$)

So I am loving XBMC, but I've already noticed that my hard drives are full. The case I have now, can't remember the name (no bigger than an old school dvd player) it can house two 3.5s, a 2.5, and one optical drive.
So it's time I ask the experts :-)

Staying around the size of a standard home theater piece of equipment (like a reciever or player), what case allows me to add the most hard drives?

Long– term wise you'll be better off building a separate server in an adjacent room.

That way size, noise and ugliness aren't a concern – only initial issue is cost but worth it in the long run.

Something to consider.

I also have this guy for xbmc1 as in signature. Home theatre quality and accommodates several HDD.

If I helped out pls give me a +

A bunch of XBMC instances, big-ass screen in the basement + a 20TB FreeBSD, ZFS server.

Isn't that the same as to what the OP current have (in terms of drive bays)? I think what he is asking is for a case with more drive bays than what he already have..or am I the one not getting what the OP is asking :confused2:

I can only echo what others have said. Adding continued "storage" to your HTPC is a bad idea, for a number of reasons.

Far better to invest in a high quality NAS or to build an UNRAID server. Host all of the media there and then stream it over the network to the HTPC. Wireless will work but is a lot of effort. Wired ethernet should work perfectly.

Any recommendations on a good NAS box, or a great guide to UNRAID server construction?
My plan was to have all this in one case, because I will be moving overseas for a while, but shrinking the media box, and bringing a server is doable I think.

regarding unRaid box, Eskro has a good guide for it here

I think the 6HDD capable guide is small enough so you could bring it with you.

As for the HTPC, depends on your need, maybe a good nettop/ATV would be good for transport.

The 6 looks like it will work
But for a mobile HTPC I have a new E350
IS there a super small case?
One small enough just for the board, a 2.5 SSD, blu-ray drive, and a micro power supply?
