Slight judder playing MKVs
#1
Hard to explain this one, but the playback just isn't quite smooth. Its noticeable to me, but my wife didn't notice it

I am playing 1080p MKV files over a gigabit network (also tried locally) and i've tried enabling sync to refresh rate etc

I am using the below spec HTPC with the latest Catalyst 11.9 drivers and audio provided by the Radeon HD5570

If i play them on my main i7 2600K PC it seems to be fine (on my monitor), and since i know it's not a CPU issue due to DXVA being enabled, i wonder if it's a refresh rate issue?

Cheers

Which Codecs are used?

ATI has had some problems in the past for XBMC.

For more help please post a Debug Log.

If your using your HTPC with only 1 monitor, then try to disable the "Use a fullscreen window rather than true fullscreen".
For my current setup, I've got to disable the "Vertical blank sync" option to get smooth Mkv playback. And I've also got a Samsung TV.

Try it, can't get worse.
Does your TV switch to 24Hz refresh rate?

Hi,

Yep my TV does 24fps. MKVs are encoded straight from Blu Ray using MakeMKV

I'll try those options and see if things improve

thanks for the tips
