And who or what exactly told you that you should do this? What was your intention?!? If you wanted to update XBMC to a nightly build - a simple readup and following of this would have done it ...

My intention was not to be update to the latest nighties instead I had read in the forums that updating to latest packages can help prevent crashes, in a last effort to fix this issue I was just trying to update to the latest packages using
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

Was hoping this might fix my isue before involving in updating into nighties..thx

Nightlies are official. June 23rd build IS a nightly, it's just a really old nightly that doesn't get updated. Latest nightly builds are very stable right now, more stable than the June 3rd repo install.

Where did you read this? I don't want to say that this is plain wrong - but i never heard of the fact that this should fix XBMC crashing.

And i even don't have a clue why it should (sounds a bit unlogical to me and i want to prevent that wrong infos get spread accross the forum and lead to other problems and issues we have to support then ...).
