Nightly Updates
#1
Hey everyone,

Another quick question that I wasn't able to resolve via a search. I am new to coding so please be kind. When I installed XBMC onto my ATV2 I used the following code:

A. wget http://mirrors.xbmc.org/nightlies/darwin/atv2/
B. dpkg -i latest_atv2.deb
C. rm latest_atv2.deb

Does the above update my ATV2 nightly or did it simply give me the latest version? Sorry if this is obvious.

Also, if it was a one time thing, should I be updating often, and if so how would I go about doing so?

thanks again

Check out the FAQ at the top:

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=111197

and then in the link on "How-to:Install XBMC on Apple TV 2 (black)":

http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW...Apple_TV_2

Basically, you forgot to get the file from http://mirrors.xbmc.org/nightlies/darwin/atv2/ - you need to open the link and then complete the URL by specifying the file name you wish to install, then dpkg - i [that filename].

The easies way to get nightlies updated is to use the script here:
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=108142
After you have done it all is needed is to type one command and it will grab the latest version and install it for you.

Ok thanks will give it a try.

So if I understand correctly the file I select will be the one installed. So if I want an updated one I need to reinput the script.

Thanks

There's a screenshot of an install on the official install page. Not sure it needs to be any easier than that:

It's in your best interest to learn a few things by going through the official instructions rather than just how to run an unofficial script.

Since we are on the topic of nightly builds. Is there a page updating what each build has corrected or added? I have completed several search but haven't found anything outlining details.

Thanks for all the help. I have been trying to read as much as possible, but sometimes, being unfamiliar with all the language I get stuck.

Either way this has been a very helpful forum and I am trying to give back whenever possible.

http://trac.xbmc.org/timeline shows each commit into xbmc git trunk. Other than that, no. Doing that would be very time consuming and would take away time from the actual work of doing the development in the first place.

There's links on the install page that have the commit history and trac timeline.
