First off I'm running osx 10.7.2 on my mac mini 2011.
My first issue is xbmc likes to randomly crash but only when in windowed mode.
when using the youtube plugin to download videos to my data drive it just flat out wont do it. Xbmc attempts to do so but no file appears in said directory. (note the save location is a secondary partition)

You haven't given much information to help solve your issue.
The easiest way of supplying lots more information is to post the xbmc log (http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Log_file) on pastebin then post a link to it in the thread.

Also if XBMC is crashing Mac can often provided a crash logs which you can also post in a similar mannar as mentioned before.
