Apple TV 2 and XBMC as a MythTV Frontend for HD
#1
I'm thinking about purchasing an Apple TV 2. I was thinking of loading XBMC on it to act as a Myth TV frontend for my MythTV box. Right now my mythbox records OTA in MPEG-2 format. Would the Apple TV 2 be powerful enough to play HD content in MPEG-2 format (OTA)?

As far as networking I can wired or wireless if that makes any difference.

Sorry but no it can't handle any HD formats except h264.

That's too bad... thanks for the info. Looks like I'm sticking with the PS3 for now then.

too bad cause if you had an Apple TV it would be so easy to setup a simple user job within mythtv to transcode your recordings to the required h264 codecs and you'd be straight! XBMC is awesomesauce!!!!

Yeah I did think about doing that, however my mythtv box is a very old desktop. It's a 6 year old AMD 64 2800+, my guess is it would take too long to transcode. If it was just me then I'd be willing to wait a day or so, but the wife and kids would not be so happy.
