[ATV2] Stopped Recognizing SMB shares/Timed Out
#1
Everything had been working perfectly for months until I woke up this morning and nothing would play. Any time I tried to go to my Movies or TV Shows, it would quickly say Operation Timed Out. I tried to re-add my shares, but as soon as I click on the PC to view the folders, I get the timed out error again. I updated to the newest nightly build just in case it was something like that, but it's still happening. Anyone have any idea what it could be?

Also, if I try to access the my media while I'm on my laptop (it's all on my desktop), I have no issues and it plays perfectly.

Need debug log and as many details as you can give: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW...og_for_iOS

I am receiving this problem too, multiple times now. It just started happening yesterday.

The xbmc.log shows:

Quote:11:22:46 T:109621248 DEBUG: CGUIMediaWindow::GetDirectory (smb://PLASMA/TV Shows/)

11:22:53 T:119566336 DEBUG: Thread Background Loader 119566336 terminating

I'm not sure if I could before, but I can't "ping plasma" (unknown host) from the atv device via ssh.

I tried adding a hosts entry (and confirmed ping worked), however the error in xbmc remained.

I should point out that the error message appears immediately. It does not even try to search for the folder.

Can I run a debug build or something to help diagnose this problem for you?

I notice lots of intermittent threads about this problem, but never any resolution.

Some possible hints:
1) I started using the 'Files' section recently to watch some shows, whether that matters
2) After watching a few videos without issue, I left xbmc just idling at the folder I was playing videos from.
3) I later copied files over wireless (atv is also wireless - bandwidth saturation? *shrug*) to the storage computer (wired), and when I went to try and play them I got the Timed out error.

I wonder if me copying the files (saturating wireless bandwidth?) broke xbmc?

A reboot of xbmc/atv/router has not done anything to fix the problem.

I'd be open to running a custom build to help gather more debug info.

Thanks

I had this problem right away when I installed this earlier this week, the work around solution ended up being to change the workgroup on the computer hosting the files from "WORKGROUP" to something else.

Step one in solving the problem would be to not use a hostname. ALWAYS use the IP when adding an SMB share thru XBMC. It may or may not fix the issue but thats the first step.
