The Apple TV 2 I bought a while back isn't quite cutting it, so I'm looking to build a small low-power HTPC that can play 1080p, and I'd like to do it as cheap as possible. Would it better to go with an Intel Atom + ION setup, or one of the new AMD APUs? (it'll be running Windows if that matters) Any advice would be appreciated.

An ASUS 1012 with OpenELEC is all you need.

so basically use an ION and Linux/Live or an ION and OpenElec.
Dharma Live is working well for me.
