If a video has subtitles and is in a ratio whereas there will be black bars at the top and bottom, move the position of the video up so the subtitles can all fit in the bottom black bar.

Bring up the OSD select "Video" then "Vertical Shift"

but that wouldn't be automatic... still good to know it's possible (i've only been using xbmc for a month and liking it a lot so far) should i need it.
