XBMC for ATV2/iOS Crashes intermittently when selecting a video to play
#1
Hi I wonder if anyone can help me or if anyone else has a similar/ same issue:

XBMC crashes out to the default ATV menu (or reboots when atv is set to
boot directly into XBMC) intermittently when selecting a video file. Once
XBMC has rebooted, the file will then play normally, but the issue returns
seemingly randomly at undetermined intervals on many video files.

The videos tested on are both Standard Def and Hi Def of varying sizes and
types - mkv files and an avi seem to return the same issue.

Am running nightly build from 24/11/11 and have been updating nightly for
a week to test the issue; still recurrent.

I have collected my XBMC log files:

http://pastebin.com/qPRMSStK

http://pastebin.com/qMBR5nyc

I use a Seagate Goflex Home NAS, which has always worked on other media streamers without any issues - hence why I wonder if the issue is with XBMC.

Any ideas anyone?! I have logged a ticket as well for this, #12229

Could be audio codec issues... it'd be worth posting the mediainfo output for the files you're having trouble with.

ERROR: CDVDAudioCodecPassthroughFFmpeg::Open - FFmpeg SPDIF muxer does not support this codec

I'd also try the standard audio tweaks from the FAQ. They're more for reducing buffering but can't hurt to try.
- Apple TV > Settings > Audio & Video > Audio Output and set it to "16 bit"
- Configure Audio Output in XBMC > System > Settings > System to use Optical/Coax
- XBMC > Settings > Video > File and deselect 'generate thumbnails'

Thank you both for the feedback - I enclose links to syslog and crashreporter logs as requested:

Syslog: http://pastebin.com/4J3EnKrC

Crashreporter latest crash log: http://pastebin.com/g7Aw1qdG

The files used are literally completely varied in output - today an xvid/mp3 170MB file crashed on selecting it; second time selected after the crash, worked fine. Another was a H264/ AAC in .mkv container, about 3GB - same as before. Another was a .avi file. There seems to be no similarity between the files. I could be wrong however.

I would certainly appreciate any help - I also attempted to update my Goflex Home's minidlna version in the hope this might resolve, but no effect.

your crash occured on nov 26th ... syslog only goes until nov 18th...

beside that ... updating the minidlna would mean you are using upnp for streaming. But as of your logs you are using smb. And the crash occurs in the smblib aswell ... so you better should try to update the smb server on your nas if possible...

Hi Memphiz thanks for your reply - Sorry I am a little new to pulling off the reports from XBMC - I pulled the syslog off in its entirety - is there a specific way to obtain the more recent crash details? It may be me not doing something correctly... a distinct possibility!

Just out of interest is there any way I can switch to upnp streaming instead of smb in xbmc or is this a setting to be configured on my NAS? Or is this an entirely noobish question and cant be done because of the nature of my NAS? I want to try and eradicate any issues that may be caused by the NAS so I know if this is XVMC or the NAS.

I will look into updating the smb server - unsure if this can be done on the goflex, but will investigate!

add videos -> browse -> upnp ... something like that ... there your minidlna should be visible then ...
