ATV2 XBMC crashes (full reboot) playing some MKV files
#1
Hi all, looking for a bit of advice please. I'm a new user of the ATV2 and XBMC, but am having an annoying issue with what appears to be a full reboot/restart/crash or my ATV2 when playing only certain MKV files.

This doesn't happen with all MKV files, just a couple I have. Not really sure what to do or check, but I've tried playing them from my PC streamed to the ATV2 and also from my Synology NAS to my ATV2. No difference, same crash (always about 1-2 min into watching the movie).

(note, file plays perfectly on my PC or laptop)

Any advice greatly appreciated.

My crystal ball tells me there might be a problem with the files, but that's a really just a guess since you've told us nothing about them.

Run a utility like Mediainfo to list the details of the codecs used and post the results. Remember, MKV is just a container, the fact that it's MKV says nothing about the audio or video codecs used within.

There's no way we can help you with only that level of information. At the very least we need the xbmc.log file: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW...og_for_iOS

On crashes at the very least syslog + crashreporter log is needed too ...

Appologies for being a numbnut, very new to all this:

Platform: Apple TV2
Version of iOS/ATV: 4.22 (2203)
XBMC Build version and date compiled: XBMC PRE-11.0 Git:20110623-62171b3 (Compiled: Jun 23 2011)
Install Method: Unknown - bought 2nd hand already jailbroken and installed.
FULL Debug Log: http://pastebin.com/0fgMDtJ3
Crash Report Log: http://pastebin.com/WzbGA09H
Detailed Instructions to Reproduce the Problem: Playback certian MKV files (in this case "Blood Diamond") plays for approximately 60 seconds, then the ATV2 seems to reboot itself, needing to load up XBMC again. If attempt to reply the video it does not resume from last watched position.

Video codec and container: I'm afraid I don't know how to find this out?
Audio codec and container: Ditto to above

Maybe it is just a screwed file?

before doing anything,

jailbreak with 4.3 using seasonpass
install latest nightly, try again.
