Team,

the XBMC devs did an excellent and amazing job in making XBMC multi platform, and the arrival of XBMC for iOS brought a huge amount of joy to many of us! The upcoming Eden release will prove that to many more (new) users.

But there is a huge (and growing) audience out there that are still lacking the magic of XBMC, the Android users!

On these XBMC forums, many have asked if there would be an Android version of XBMC, but the devs stated there are no immediate plans due to technical challenges and that they lack a diversity of Android devices/hardware to be able to even start seriously looking at an Android version of XBMC.

So how about a little help and enable the devs to purchase Android devices (incl. tablets) and provide additional resources so they can free up some time and take a shot at it?? Wouldn't that be a nice holiday gift?

No promises, but without our help also no Android version of XBMC, so let's step up and donate!

Donating is simple and safe! and don't under estimate the power of even a few dollars. So please consider donating the value of a few beers, that won't hurt will it? ;-)

See what's going on on a daily basis, and why we should pitch in that extra dollar here:

ps. can this thread be made sticky please. It's probably worth the effort.

Team,

what does it take to get an effort going to port XBMC to Android please?

Several attempts (also by me) did not get any attention from the devs.

Thanks.

Ok changed my mind, since discouraging it does not seem to help, let's try something different.

Here you go. your very own android for xbmc sticky. You can fill it will all you want, just stop making new threads about Android.

You're joking right? Like has been said, it's been beaten to death. Same as with PS3, Xbox360, etc.

git clone https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc.git
Code:

Not quite right.
He means the subject has been discussed many times before.
Android will get there however the problem is the libraries XBMC needs aren't available yet. Also a lot of recoding has to be done.

I would love to see this done as well. With Android tablets very quickly moving within reach of Apple's market share, and the various living-room devices running GoogleTV or vanilla android, there is certainly a need.

Hopefully at some point we do have the resources available to make this happen. As said, I would love to see it.

What devices (or for that matter does the Android OS) have the power to really make this work? I don't want to use my tablet as an mp3 player or a video system. I'm probably being short-sighted here, but I'm thinking about sitting on a couch staring down at a 7" screen going wow - I think I'll sell my home system.
Even if I had a reeeeaaally long subway ride or something I don't think it'd replace a basic IPod/Pad/MP3 player.
System: XBMC HTPC with HDMI WASAPI & AudioEngine - Denon  AVR-3808CI  - Denon DVD-5900 Universal Player  - Denon DCM-27 CD-Changer
- Sony BDP-S580 Blu-Ray  - X-Box 360  - Android tablet wireless remote - 7.1 Streem/Axiom/Velodyne Surround System
If I have been able to help feel free to add to my reputation +/- below - thanks!

While there are lots of different Android hardware, recent efforts by Google with the Android SDK has made it easier to develop for all of them (from what I hear. Most of this is above my head). Meaning, once it works for some Android devices then we're pretty much in for all of them, including more likely devices such as $100 little boxes with HDMI ports. And unlike the Apple TV 2, these have USB ports, internal hard drives, and more (which is not to say that the ATV2 is not a bad deal considering the raw hardware).

There's a ton of these devices out. Everything from actual "Google TV" branded stuff, to lots of unbranded players coming out of China.

While a tablet might not seem to make a lot of sense with XBMC, the experience is actually very awesome. I'll have to find some screen shots of Jezz_x's excellent Touched skin that is the default iPad skin (and should work for Windows multitouch devices as well).

On top of all that, take an Android phone with an HDMI port or HDMI adapter, and you have an OTG XBMC box in your pocket. Over at a friend's house and want to watch a movie or show them XBMC? Bam, it's right there.
