1. Am I assuming correctly that if you have an A-TV2 that is jailbroken with XBMC loaded on it, that it could stream any video file type that XBMC can handle, and not just apple format?
2. Do you find that wireless streaming is sufficient, or would a powerline adapter be better? Hardwire from the router is not an option for me. Thanks.

I stream wirelessly and it's fine for most cases, although yes wired would probably be a little better.

Agree - I stream 720p movies over 802.11g just fine without any issues, but the router is directly below the atv2 upstairs
As for powerline, it's hit or miss depending on your home...newer wiring, length of wiring, and whether you cross circuit breakers - especially AFCI breakers - can significantly decrease throughput. I had the linksys PLTK300 kit that worked well, but since wireless worked just as well I kept it wirelessly.
If you happen to be in the US with FiOS, MoCA is an excellent choice too
