Original Apple TV 1 connected via HDMI.
Jailbroken with Apple Patch Stick Creator.

Everytime I play an xvid file, i get a loud screeching noise that continues for the entire movie instead of any of the audio that should be there.
Anyone else have this problem? I searched but couldn't find anything similar.

Multiple xvid files. I've tested with the only three xvid files I have on the hard drive, and none play, while older file formats seem to play perfectly.

how is your audio setup in xbmc ?

Under Audio output in System Settings I have:
audio output: hdmi
speaker configuration: 2.0
boost volume level on downmix: yes
dolby digital (ac3) capable receiver: yes
DTS capable receiver: yes
Audio output device: default output device

And, erm, problem solved.
I changed all the settings to off, and it began working. I started toggling them all to see which one caused it and apparently it was "dolby digital ac3 capable receiver"
Wonder what that was all about.
