How to Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs
You have spotted the famous ASIC hang.
We bug AMD about this since some months ... there are multiple entries in the openelec bugtracker and even on fernetmenta's github. There is nothing we can do about it, just hoping that a new driver will fix it. (see above)

But, this has nothing to do with the aticonfig command. 12.6 was just badly done by their QS and so they missed some IDs in the control file. Take the control file from 12.6b or 12.4 - this will make aticonfig work - also see some posts before, i wrote a howto.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
I think the problem is caused by XBMC and it primarily shows with fglrx because the driver is not fault tolerant. Those kind of errors occur e.g. when a texture is queued to the GL and is cleared by the application before it actually gets rendered.

It's very hard to track down. The more detailed information you provide the higher the chance to find this problem. What exactly does it mean "display of"? Is a visualization running while playing music? What exactly do you see on screen when it freezes? Debug log.
First we need to find a common pattern.
After manual instalation of 64-bit 12.04 Ubuntu Precise minimal i cant use videodatabase and pathsubstitution. My advancedsettings is here that work on windows and iso from xbmcfreak:

<advancedsettings>
<videodatabase>
<type>mysql</type>
<host>192.168.2.100</host>
<port>3306</port>
<user>xbmc</user>
<pass>xbmc</pass>
<name>xbmc_video</name>
</videodatabase>
<pathsubstitution>
<substitute>
<from>special://masterprofile/Thumbnails/</from>
<to>smb://192.168.2.100/Thumbnails/</to>
</substitute>
</pathsubstitution>
<cputempcommand>sensors|sed -ne "s/temp1: \+[-+]\([0-9]\+\).*/\1 C/p"</cputempcommand>
<gputempcommand>/usr/bin/aticonfig --od-gettemperature | grep Temperature | cut -f 2 -d "-" | cut -f 1 -d "." | sed -e "s, ,," | sed 's/$/ C/'</gputempcommand>
</advancedsettings>

Do i have to install somthing ?

I can browse samba in xbmc but not nfs.
did you install libmysqlclient18 and libnfs1?
Hi, coming from a ubuntu server 12.04 installation, I succesfully installed XBMC and X so I could hook it up to the tv.
After that I've removed xbmc and installed it again from xbmc-xvba-testing to have the latest and greatest. Very pleased to see that audio is working over optical spdif for me, both passthrough and downmix - including menu sounds and crossfading!

Question: One option that doesn't seem to work for me after the 'upgrade' is the 'save this setting for all videos / audio' when playing a movie or watching tv. It doesn't seem to remember / overwrite the default as I need to change those settings every time again.

Question 2: would it be able to let the above be applicable for TV vs Video's? My TV is coming into the box from a Hauppauge Wintv PVR250, and needs other settings that the movies stored on harddisk. So a seperate 'default' would be nice.

Question 3: I've had a few times that I went a bit too heavy on the cpu usage (browsing large music list while xbmc was indexing and downloading stuff) which resulted in an unresponsive xbmc (mouse didn't even move). Had to kill xbmc.bin and start over. Not a biggy but shouldn't happen nonetheless.

One more thing, though hardware accelleration seems to work somewhat (around 50-60% cpu usage during 1080p playback - good enough for me), xbmc often jumps to 100% cpu usage when I'm just in the menu doing nothing. If I can help debug this, please tell me how.

For the rest: thanks for this great deal of work wsnipex!
ad 1.) I think it does work for me, but need to check again. I hardly ever change defaults. But it definitely does save settings for single movies. e.g. which audio track
ad 2.) sorry, I don't understand that, why do you want other output settings for live TV?
ad 3.) is that while playing 1080p60 or interlaced material? for those stuff its normal.

Thx that help. I can now use nfs and the db on my nas, but when i scrape a movie i offent only have the fanart and not the cover. Some movies onlyhave the movie info and no pic. Any fix for that ?

I have 2 setup. One with xbmc-xvba and one with -testingxbmc-xvba-testing. I can see they use different database. xbmc_video67 for another for test. Can they use the same db
we don't do scrapers, mainline problem

if they use a different DB, then they can't obviously. Install the same version on both PCs.
Hi, I'm getting a segfault when trying to resume from standby.
Code:
Jul 25 11:27:44 xbmc kernel: [ 2829.859485] xbmc.bin[1348]: segfault at 74 ip 00007f4b79b8916d sp 00007fff6229e070 error 4 in libfreetype.so.6.8.0[7f4b79b73000+96000]

Any ideas ?
@divingmule:
Sorry again. This is fglrx fault - you might try the workaround written in the very first post. But there is currently work on this - next drivers - should be more fault tolerant while doing suspend / resume - but nothing official yet - and as always: no release date.

OK, how do i remove the xbmc-xvba-testing version and replace with the xbmc-xvba version ? (Sry i am a linux noob)
golddk: This won't really change anything - as these versions are nearly equal :-)

If you want a stable and reliable build, go back to the Eden version.

actually scrapers work fine for me. maybe its just improper naming of your files.
I'm constantly running into the "no screen output & xbmc with high cpu load" bug, after playing music for a while. All I have to do is add a directory with music files to the playlist and let them play for while. I'm usually turning off my TV, don't know if that makes any difference. The default "music" virtualization is running in xbmc during playback. A reboot is required to get xbmc back running.

I enabled debug logging, here is the output:
Debug log

This bug does not occur when idling at the menu, only during music playback (so far).
Today it happened again. No crashlog from xbmc, but xbmc hangs @ 100% CPU Utilization.
No kill/term can end this, only reboot helps.

It happened again while playing music and Display (rojector hooked up @ AVR via hdmi) off.
I deactivated any music-visualisation.

EDIT: xbmc crashlog after reboot:

I additionally have no idea how to remove those "HDMI hot plug events" spamming since I did not turn on/off AVR or projector
