HTPC Build
#1
Hey,
So I decided against buying a HP MicroServer and want to build a HTPC now.
Is there anything new coming early next year?
I know there is always sth new but I could wait 1 month so if anything releases in Jan 2012.

Right now I only use it for SD and a bit HD but it should be able to play 3d HD and run every Skin smoothly.

Here is what I was planing to buy:
Board: ASRock A75 (Not really sure which one, I need IR but I cant really find out which one has build in IR)

CPU: A6-3500 (Dont think I need Quad)

RAM: Corsair XMS3 4gb (I have a 2x2 kit in my Desktop any problems with the board/cpu?)

Case/PSU: I want a flat case (dont really know how they are called, format like an AV Receiver) with IR and need a good PSU for 2-3 HDD and the PC

CPU Fan: I dont really know how loud the Boxed cooler is so maybe a new one.

The PC should be as quit as possible.

Right now I have a HDD but I want to buy a SSD later and more HDDs when the price drops.

As OS I want to use openelec which seems to have problems with AMD so if that doesnt work Win7.

In HTPC land, not everything new is better...

Two of my HTPC's are Atom/ION based, and I've got no plans/reason to upgrade. The newest is an old AMD 240e processor with an ancient GT430 GPU and it does 3D and any audio I can see me using in the distant future.

As far as I'm concerned, my next purchase will be when I finish off my master suite (I'll have another TV in there, or some new format makes it out to consumers (4k or something) but I don't think that will drive me since the TVs aren't going anywhere that I know of.

If you're ready now, buy now, you'll not be missing anything, at least in my opinion...

This build should do it then:

1. Case/PSU: SILVERSTONE Black Aluminum/Antec EarthWatts Green EA-380D Green 380W
2. APU: AMD A6-3500 Llano 2.1GHz (2.4GHz Max Turbo)
3. MOBO: ASRock A75M-ITX FM1
4. CPU Cooler- Thermaltake MeOrb

It'll playback BD in full 1080P video with DTS-HD and TrueHD audio! Smile
>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

You keep on linking this CPU-Cooler but it´s not available anywhere.
Try to find a store who stills sells these.

Had I waited a month or two (actually it was less han 2weeks) on my last purchase, I would have cost me about $180 more now. Three 2TB hard drives went through the roof!

You never know... Typically, prices go down, albeit slowly...

Yea sth like that can always happen.

@ bluray:
The case looks really nice and the price is ok with about 73€.

I cant find the board here only:
ASRock A75 Pro4-M, A75 (dual PC3-14900U DDR3)
ASRock A75M, A75 (dual PC3-14900U DDR3)
ASRock A75M-HVS, A75 (dual PC3-14900U DDR3)

Oh, ok I found it it was not listed under FM1 boards...
But still cant find anything about IR.

And how loud is the Antec, the last one I had was kinda noisy.

Right now Im already at 235,96 Euro without a PSU...

yeah well, the antec has an 80mm fan so,
obviously, it'll be noisier then 120mm equipped PSU's....

Yea but its kinda hard to find sth about the nois level.

I had an Antec with 120 and it was way louder than my Cooler Master that I have now.

Something below 400w should be enough even with 3 HDDs right?

You can find info on it here- AsRock A75M. Since it included "Supports On/Off Play Technology" option, you should be able to turn HTPC on/off with IR/MCE remote controller when use one of the USB in the rear panel.
