[Apple TV2] Did I just choose the wrong day to upgrade?
#1
I already had my ATV2 jailbroken with Seas0npass and XBMC installed, however today I decided to upgrade to the newest ios 4.4.4. Everything went fine with the jailbreak however when I tried to reinstall XBMC I got the following in terminal after putting in this line:

apt-get update

Error:

W: Failed to fetch http://mirrors.xbmc.org/apt/atv2/./Release.gpg NetDB: Open nodename nor servname provided, or not known

W: Failed to fetch http://mirrors.xbmc.org/apt/atv2/./Packages.gz NetDB: Open nodename nor servname provided, or not known

E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

===========

I've tried switching DNS to google/open DNS but the same thing keeps happening. If I do the rest of install steps, XBMC appears on the menu, but when I open it it just resets the ATV, also the folder :

/private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/XBMC/

does not exist when I FTP onto the ATV, so I think the problem is that the files cydia needs to complete the installation aren't all there, is that correct or am I missing something else?

If it is the problem is there any idea on a work around or when it may be fixed?

Thanks!

I thought the same at first, but its still happening. And I can navigate around the XBMC.org site without any problems so I dont think thats the issue. Below is the full log of my terminal session, I'm sure it must have something to do with the error it gets for:

W: Failed to fetch http://mirrors.xbmc.org/apt/atv2/./Release.gpg NetDB: Open nodename nor servname provided, or not known

W: Failed to fetch http://mirrors.xbmc.org/apt/atv2/./Packages.gz NetDB: Open nodename nor servname provided, or not known

As I cannot hit those URLs directly, can anyone else?

Is there a way of getting a download of the necessary install files on my local machine and getting it to install from there instead?

Is it not working at all? Although this is the old Cydia version and not Eden Beta 1

I guess thats because I've tried restoring/reinstalling several times, but yeah, I click XBMC and it just restarts the ATV. I even tried buying firecore's ATV flash and installing XBMC through that, same thing (infact it resets during the install process, doesn't prompt me to do it - I can then choose to update, which it says is successful but still doesn't work and the log it showed suggested nothing had actually updated)

Is it not possible that some crucial files have gone missing in the DNS switch over?

In my case, it's happening with a blank, freshly jailbroken ATV2. Everything usually goes well when I do that and I've got this error today for the first time. So it quite likely has nothing to do with having restored or installed XBMC several times.

was doing it for me as soon as i first jail broke too. So I guess just wait and see if the file paths get fixed if no one has any other ideas?

, i try pingin from my PC, with a VPN, that give me an ip of EUROPE, and from there i get response:
ping mirrors.xbmc.org

Haciendo ping a mirrors.xbmc.org [212.110.166.220] con 32 bytes de datos:
Respuesta desde 212.110.166.220: bytes=32 tiempo=251ms TTL=52

but from my local netowrk is not responding, i try to update private/etc/host file in my atv2 to hardcode that ip but that not work either....im not sure if that is the correct file....if there anything more to do after adding in the hosts file this line:
212.110.166.220 mirrors.xbmc.org
any command to reload the hosts table or something like that?

txs!
