Budget Build: Advice Needed
#1
I am looking to build a cheap HTPC, then put some light linux distro such as Arch on it and install XBMC. This computer will have to stream content via wifi from my desktop aka file server.
I have a SSD that I can use so I just need the rest of the parts. I have based the build on the one in the sticky, but I live in Canada so I had to adapt.

CPU: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.asp...6819116409
MOBO: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.asp...6813138332
VIDEO CARD: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.asp...6814125392
RAM: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.asp...6820220480
CASE/PSU: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.asp...6811154087
WIFI: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.asp...llFullInfo

I'm not sure about the case, some reviews say it is loud.

Does everything look okay? Maybe something I should consider or take into account? With shipping and tax this comes to $310 which is about where I want to be. I would be willing to spend $30 more max.

another option would be to use openELEC version of XBMC,
if u dont know about it already, its a linux distro but only contains XBMC.
nothing else as it boots str8'up into XBMC.

and being so lite, u can use it with an AMD E350 platform
as there's a version of openELEC just for it!
overall cost would be very low

Thanks. I did see you builds but couldn't get those exact parts. I have not heard of openELEC so I will look into that.
I also have not considered the the AMD Fusion option. Will look into that for sure.
Thanks for your advice

also the mobo/cpu you suggested doesn't have HDMI output.

wow, how could they do that, no HDMI! good call.. sorry for that...

in this case, after verifying, this motherboard here is good

MOBO/CPU/iGPU ,,, ($119.99 CAD) --> also get a $30 mail in rebate card

which brings your cost after rebate to

TOTAL: ~$204.30 Taxes & Shipping included!!

For about the same price (after rebates) you could add a GT520 instead:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/ProductList...ageSize=20

The GT210 is pretty dated tech at this point.

edit..

Just noticed you are using Linux so you probably wouldn't see much benefit (3D+HD audio) in getting a newer card. Just go with whichever is cheapest.
Main HTPC:
Intel e4600 + AMD HD5450 + Antec NSK2480B case + 4gb ddr2 + Earthwatts 430 + 1.5tb Seagate 7200 + XBMC Rapier Qualar Mod Skin + Win7
Office HTPC/Ripper/Server:
AMD x4 635 + GT220 + Antec 300 case + 4gbddr3 + OCZ ModXStream 500 psu + 3x2tb WD green drives + Win7

Any reason why you opted for this case: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=39960&vpn=...ture=Antec

instead of this one which you recommend in your other guides? http://ncix.com/products/?sku=32938&vpn=...Technology

yes, in your situation, that ANTEC case will be good because
it has a 65W FanLess PSU! No Noise!
65W is enough to power an E350 platform!
