Windows Eden crashes on 'skip'
#16
Still happening with RC1 Sad
Reply

Yes also happens with RC2. With RC2 the movies are also stuttering very often. It seems that each version runs more worse than the version before Sad

I also can not understand why there are only a few posts in this thread. As I mentioned before, I installed Beta2, Beta3 and both release candidates on many windows machines and they all have this problems.

I really hope that one of the developers will pay attention to this thread soon.

Same here. Every time I switch on debug it works fine. When I switch debug off it works for a few times then weird stuff starts happening like it freezes or it takes a while to start playing again which gets progressively worse until it dumps me back to the desktop. I don't get an error message or anything.

One thing I have noticed is if I am fast forwarding (or rewinding) and then skip I don't get a crash.

It been happening for me since beta 2.

Will someone upload a debug log on pastebin...

We're not ignoring this, but I have tried several times to reproduce it and failed. If someone can give me a set of instructions as to what type of video to play, what to press and when, I will try again to reproduce it.

@CrystalIP: the problem with a debug log is that the problem appears not to happen when debug logging is enabled.

Hello devs, i'm getting the same error with all 11.0 beta's and rc. With 10.1 everything is fine.

Here's how it occurs: debug mode is NOT on, play an xvid file, press skip forward a lot. Xbmc will crash. I have a amd vid card.

I think this kills Xbmc: 08:19:32 T:5720 ERROR: CThread:ConfusedtaticThread : Access violation at 0x772e2cc7: Reading location 0xcb51e50b
It would guess that is caused by this 08:19:27 T:3232 WARNING: CRenderManager::Configure - timeout waiting for previous frame.

Here's the log, hope it helps:

I was asking for a debug log because it gives a good idea of the steps to make the problem happen, the type of file, the hardware...
Even though I understood that the actual problem won't happen.

Having the exact same problem here. Doesn't happen with Dharma, only with Eden RC2.

Also have tried running debug, but the problem won't happen while it's on.

Currently just watching everything with the debug on so I don't crash non stop.

Looking forward to it been solved.

Dear Developers,

As mentioned before this problem happens on all HTPC´s where I installed XBMC Eden Beta 2 up to RC2 (Beta 1 works fine).

All machines where I installed XBMC are running on Windows 7 64. Most of them have a Core I5 Sandy Bridge Processor and all have an AMD GPU (AMD HD 5450, AMD HD 6950 etc). It happens with all video files (Avi, MKV, video streams etc). Just press the skip button a few times and than it crashs. Please let me know if you need any further informations.

Thanks for your great work!

This is still occuring in Eden 11.0.

To replicate I find .wmvs are the most consistent. Just play it and skip forward and backwards until it crashes. Sometimes it only takes one skip sometimes you need to go nuts, but eventually it will happen.

Is there a way to turn off the heads up in debugging mode? I went extra crazy while in debug and could not crash it.

Yes it crashes still with final Eden all the time Sad

That is an old problem. And it is nasty as it doesn't happen in debugging mode indeed.
A few months ago, I added that line to advancesettings and strangely it never happened again, so I almost forgot about it.

Even though no dev has been able to repro, it would help to at least know when this started happening (between which nightly/beta/rc releases)
And I'll insist on a debug log with a few skips like the ones that would create the freeze if the debug option was not active.

The problem seems to have started in 11.0 beta. It's in all rc and also in the final. I never tried the nightlies of 11 tho. In 10.1 the problem does not occur.

I start xbmc in portable mode (-p).

The workaround is putting advancedsettings.xml in the userdata folder. The advancesettings.xml contains this:
<advancedsettings>
<loglevel>1</loglevel>
</advancedsettings>

Thanks to RazorFR for that info.

I can confirm this is the same for myself.

I have created an advancedsettings.xml in my users datauser folder as I do not use portable mode and this had indeed worked around the problem.
