Refurb Units
#1
Having seen someones post earlier about use of refurb units as a basis for HTPV i was wondering what the minimum spec of a CPU should be which when adding a dedicated graphics card (one of Eskros low profile recommendations) would be adequate for 1080p output.

I received an email about this specced unit:
Description:
- Intel Pentium D 925 Dual Core 3.0GHz Processor
- 2GB DDR2 RAM
- 80GB Hard Drive
- DVD
- 4 x USB 2.0 Ports (rear)
- D-Sub, DVI-D
- 2-in-1 Sound
- 2 x USB 2.0 Ports (front)
- Front sound
- Windows 7 Home Premium
- Supplied with recovery partition
- 90 Day Warranty

*** Windows Experience Index ***
4.7 CPU
5.2 Memory
2.1 Graphics
3.2 Gaming Graphics
5.8 Hard Drive

Would this suffice to add a graphics card to? (it does have a pcie slot free)

Should be ok Smile
Be careful of power requirements etc!

I'd go for a nvidia card (430gt eg) and run the live distro/version of XBMC to best utilise your hardware...essentially due to RAM amount...if htpc only is your goal

no posted price so cant help there...

Love XBMC too check this -> HERE (Last Updated: 25/01/2012)

check out the xbmcmediacentre.com competition!

My hate campaign on optical discs started young, sorry I can't help it.
