I tried 3 time to install XBMC on my ATV1 (software version 3.0.2) following the steps on the link
http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW...nal_ATV_OS
"Power on your Apple TV 1 and wait for the picture of a Penguin (Tux) sitting on an Apple TV 1. If you do not see this picture when you boot up, and the Apple TV 1 just boots up normally, you may need to create a new USB drive patchstick using a different USB drive (preferably using a different brand). Sometimes some USB drives don't work for booting. You can also use memory cards and a USB reader in place of a typical USB drive."
I created a new USB drive patchstick using 3 different USB drive ( using a different brand).
I used 2 different PC (XP, Vista) using The Windows XP/Vista interim solution atv-win-3.0
There is slightly different information on this link
http://code.google.com/p/atvusb-creator/...stickGuide
The additional step is:
"Now that you have a flash drive with the modified image on it, you need to put it in the Apple TV. Hold MENU and - buttons while doing this to force the Apple TV to begin the recovery process. This will kick off the search for mass storage devices with recovery information"
I wonder if someone can give me a clue whats wrong?
What should I do for the USB sticks to be recognized by AppleTV ?
Do you need to hold the MENU and - buttons or you don't?
Is a better way is to plug the USB stick into the USB port While the AppleTV is booting, in the first few seconds of the boot process?
can you use a Windows machine to format the USB drive as FAT32, or it need Apple computer with Mac OS for the format and the creation of the Patchstick?
Thanks,
Josh
