Was all set for A6-3500 until I read this..

Blimey thanks for the replies guys MUCH appreciated.

My original idea was making a low watt NAS.

Got some old AMD`s sitting around and was thinking of using them but thought I`d have a look around first.

After seeing the 18W Fusions APU`s I got side tracked into NAS/XBMC for a HTPC.

I was all set between B and C was mainly hoping the Fusion would do it but seems that it aint got the grunt.

Ideally wanted a low watt box(NAS + XBMC) sitting under the telly but I didnt realise the kinda processing power needed for the HTPC side of things.

A:

Stick a RADEON HD 6570 (£40 approx) in old hardware (P4 3ghz) ?

-----------------------------------------------------------------

B:

Fusion E-350 (£100-£120 approx)

Was thinking of using this as NAS and for XBMC?

I like the idea of the low watts for NAS but maybe not enough power for HTPC?

------------------------------------------------------------------

C:

As suggested by Eskro sticky etc..

A6 A3500 2.1GHz £66 ( $101 )
ASRock MB-A75M £60 ( $91 )

------------------------------------------------------------------

The A6-3500 route seems very popular here and YOU are the guys who should know.

The price of the A6/mobo is approx the same as these Fusions but the Fusions low watts is still attractive as that is what I was originally looking for.

If the Fusions could do the HTPC side of things then I would plump for that.

I think(lol) I`ll go the A6 for HTPC with a seperate low watt PC acting as NAS/Server and clear out this old hardware..

Tho` I`ll leave it for a bit to see if the prices drop.

With all your options, this is your best choice and cheaper too. If I have 3GHz P4 and HD6570, I'll never look further! Smile
>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

Really? So these A6-A8 may be overkill?

I may give that a go first. Any suggestions? Thanks..

You will be surprise how well 3GHz P4 plus HD6570 perform. You should have plenty of core power to run XBMC. My 2.5GHz P4 can run XBMC with ease! Smile

Great glad to hear that the old stuff can be put to use Smile

Been looking at this review at TomsHardware http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/rade...25-16.html
In your opininon should I find a 6570 with GDDR5/GDDR3 with either 512/1gb be fine just for HTPC?

EDIT: Forget that £40 for HD6570 more like £60+.

Originally found it on HardWareKing for £34
After doing a bit more searching I found that price suspiciously low!!
Hardwareking is a scam site apparently.. Do a Google..

Me again sorry Blush

What about the 6450?
Been looking at the specs compared to the 6570.

6570 gaming side of things MUCH stronger and apart from the 24x multi-sample and super-sample anti-aliasing modes compared to 12x on the 6450 the specs look very similar.

What attracts me is the lower power and there are more "passive" options.
