I'm going to build my own HTPC. In the long run, I would like to build an own Media Server, too, using FreeNAS or UnRaid. Thus, starting with building the HTPC first, I would like to buy an HDD that can be used in the HTPC first and later be moved in the Media Server, in order to not waste money on an HDD that can't be reused.

What HDDs do you recommend?
I read poofhairy's guide and my conclusion is that I at least should avoid the WD Greens because they can't be used in a FreeNAS server, while being great for a HTPC, right?

Any brand name drive will work. I prefer samsung F4s but the WD green will work. You just want to be able to get a hold of the same drive at a later date with hopefully the same firmware
