Ugh geeze.
There are already open feature requests: one from two years ago (http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/8592) and one from seven years ago (http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/764).
The more recent one is still open. Both tickets refer to using a Wake on LAN (WOL) python script as an add-on to address the issue.
I'll have to experiment with that and report back.
