I can't decide which video card I should get for my first HTPC. I narrowed it down between a Nvidia 430 or a AMD 6570. I'm not doing anything fancy, no 3D, and my TV is only 720p. I pretty much just want it to play movies and TV shows, and possibly handle Sims 3 for the girlfriend.

I can get the 430 at $29.99 or the 6570 for $49.99. Some say that the 6570 is better, but does the extra cost justify my use?

I was in exactly the same situation...

the 6570 is MUCH better value for money Smile

It'll avoid macroblocking -weirdness on screen when ff/rw (if purely for this reason Wink

)
it's "latest gen" so extended support
AND will easy have enough power for a while to come -hence it's built into the FM1 chips of AMD (well a mobile version I guess)

The 6570 under Windows is great. I'd go 430 if you're planning on Linux.

The 6450? Is that a future proof card to get instead of 6570? It is cheaper I guess.

I believe I have read Eskro recommending to get the 6550 now rather than the 6450.

What do you guys think about this GPU from my local Microcenter?

It's a Zotac 430 for $26.99 after MIR (Newegg has it at $59.99 after MIR). A 6570 at Microcenter would run at least $59.99 after MIR. And I heard the 430 can hold up against the 6570 but I also don't want to 3D. Should I buy the 430 or wait out on a good 6570? Only thing worries me is the future proof of the 430. I'm not sure what new features the 6570 has to offer over the 430 if someone can please shed some light. Thanks

I guess I don't understand future proof... What's coming in the future? 4K? Nothing is going to do that now anyway, right? Am I missing something?

I know your pissed after all that switching and swapping of your video cards. I stiil have my GT-520 sitting up collecting dust, i think I'll try it with EDEN and see what my result is...
