This is the pc i am currently using for xmbc

i have windows 7 64 bit installed

i have messed around with all the video settings in xbmc to no avail. It almost grinds to a halt at points with anything that is HD, dropping frames at will

if anybody has any advice as to what i should do it would be greatly appreciated

will provide a full list of the pc's specs if needed

Yes, provide a list of the specs. That will definitely help. Also, a log might help, too.

I would guess that either the DXVA isn't picking up properly, or some of the HD files you're using either don't play nicely with XBMC's default decoding engine or your CPU usage is being pushed right out there.

What I would do, first of all, is ensure you have the latest drivers for the onboard graphics (as I can't see the component listed), and then try running one of the files in MPC-HC, and make sure DXVA is kicking in for the file in question, and see if its dropping lots of frames there.

Once we've confirmed it's not the general spec causing problems, or a bigger problem, then we could look at whether something in XBMC doesn't like your files Smile

Enable debug logging from System settings, System, Debugging, and restart XBMC then wait a minute or two for all the startup tasks to finish. Now play one of the problem films and wait for it to start dropping frames. Stop the film and close XBMC.

Open the debug log by pressing Windows-R and in the Run dialog type:

"%appdata%\xbmc\xbmc.log"

(including the quotes). Click OK and the log should open in Notepad. Copy and paste the log into http://pastebin.com/ and post the link it gives you here.
