Okay, I don't want to freak out or jinx myself, but I think I may have a work around:

If I double click or hit enter to run xbmc.exe it always crashes... but if I open xbmc.exe from the command prompt it works!

So I made a simple .bat file to run xbmc

WTH this works is beyond me! Anyone know why using a cmd window works, but using normal windows opening fails

That's odd. The difference between the two is that running XBMC.exe from Explorer does not set the current directory while running XBMC from the command line does.

I have this exact same experience. From the command line all works well, from start menu it hangs really bad.

I tried running from cmd. it still hangs. I'm runing 16.0 Jarvis. using a windows 10 gateway laptop. I can get it to open if I leave it for a couple of hours. but then if I try to open file manager it freezes.
