Hi everyone. I have decided to try out both plex and xbmc to find out which one is easier to use and also has more features. I am a complete noob at this, so bear with me. this is my current setup:

-imac running both plex (server and client) and xbmc with an external harddrive attached to it. the imac is connected to tv. and connected to the internet using wifi

-apple tv 2 with another tv (upstairs) jailbroken with both plex (client) and xbmc installed. the atv2 is using wifi also.

now with plex it was quite straightforward. as soon as i installed plex on atv2 it instantly picked up my plex server from imac and was showing all the movies, tv shows, channels etc. i didnt have to configure a single thing.

But with xbmc this wasn't the case. I want my apple tv 2 xbmc to display all the movies and infos with posters directly from my imac. my guess is i have to configure something in the network settings. but i could't find any tutorial that is easy to understand.

help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Because XBMC isn't a server app.

share the drive and scan in content to atv2

I've never tried it, but the PleXBMC add-on is another option. Basically lets XBMC talk to the Plex Media Server.
