OK, here goes. Apologies for the syslog, but one day (Feb 13) was 1.6mb so I had to split it up in four parts due to the pastebin size limitation -

Known issue with afp - we can't do anything about it. Please use another network sharing protocol. (afp works for about 50% of the users, and doesn't for the other 50%. We will have a solution for this somewhen after eden when we maybe get a complete new library for accessing afp shares).

Thanks for the info.
What's the best network sharing protocol for OSX in order to use XBMC with my AppleTV? SMB?

if not already on lion - smb, else - nfs or the custom samba package which is floating around in the forum here somewhere...

Haven't tried it myself, but heard good things about it: http://eduo.info/apps/smbup

Is it separate samba package or uses apple's built in smb?

The web page is clear, it provides an independent samba as apple's samba under 10.7 is borked.

Confirmed: After installing SMBup(http://eduo.info/apps/smbup) XBMC doesn't crash anymore (during the movie)Smile

Thanks guys

afp crashes are known. About 50% of afp users have these problems. The other 50% are fine. We can't do anything about it. We have to wait to find another afp solution. Until then you just have to use another protocol (e.x. smb, ftp or nfs).
