I'm making a bit of an effort to finaly get my library in order. I have all movies in separate dirs on the mediaserver and was trying to use ember to update and correct all info. For various reasons I can't rename the nfo files in the folders <movie>.nfo but I have set Ember to write all info to movie.nfo. Is there a way to force xbmc to scrape from movie.nfo and not <movie>.nfo?

I believe if you scan with "Movies in separate folders named after the movie title" it will do this.
