Is there a way XBMC can display some sort of screen saver that would be like a Welcome sign you would see at a movie theater? Like it could say "Welcome to (such-and-such) theaters/cinemas. Enjoy the Show"
Is that possible?

You can select diashow and point to a folder that only contains one image...
But this is not so friendly to your screen...
