MP3's
#1
Hi All

I'm looking to start a music collection on XBMC and was just wondering what the prerequisites were for it to scan any given folder and recognise the contents of the folder along with the Artist and so on?

I've just tried a folder with mp3's in, but it didn't do a full scan. I'm guessing it may read the metadata contained in the files.

Any help would be appreciated.

There's 2 stages:

1. Read the metadata in the tags.
2. Scrape further information for the artist/album (as read in the tag) from the web.

I normally recommend ensuring that number 2 is disabled at first (settings->music->library) to make sure your tags are correct. You can then scan for artist + album information once you get stuff into the library.

Cheers,
Jonathan

It does read the tags in the files and can scrape pictures of the artist from the internet.

Thanks for your help.

Am I right in thinking that no matter how a cd is ripped to mp3, it will always contain info about the song and band? Unless of course it was ripped with minimal info.

You are correct. It will contain info about the song and band, except when it doesn't.

Grab yourself a copy of any good MP3 tag editor software and you can manually check/update the tags before you add to the XBMC library.
I use Mp3Tag http://www.mp3tag.de/en/ myself and really like it. YMMV

Slightly off topic.

But I'm thinking off purchasing a Digital TV Tuner Card for my setup here.

Will I be able to configure it to play via XBMC, and at the same time have the function to pause and rewind live tv (like sky and virgin)?

Again, any help would be appreciated.

Is there a way it can handle double albums better?

Its not letting me get artist information even though it has all the info it needs to do a search.

The ablum is Blur - Greatest Hits
