Sandy Bridge G440 Celeron - Fast Enough?
#1
I'm hoping eskro weighs in on this one as I know in his guides he points to the G530 as the cheapest, lowest-end recommended xbmc build.

Does the single-core G440 have the chops to handle all of the typical use cases associated with an xbmc setup? 720p/1080p/Netflix/Hulu streams?

The cost different is obviously nominal but for me it's about being cheap and having the lowest possible power consumption as the machine will double as a NAS/Web server that will be on 24x7x365.

My preference will be to buy an "all Intel" solution so I'm avoiding AMD's E-350/E-450 and Atom doesn't really have the chops that I'm looking for (not to mention the boards just don't come up with enough SATA ports).

From what I've read, the G440 can decode 1080p with low CPU consumption but I haven't seen anything definitive on the topic; just conjecture based on the platform-level (sandy bridge) discussions / reviews.

Any insight you could provide would be appreciated!

Cheers,

Jim
