Atv3?

Hopefully once hacked it can handle bluray rips and not some low bitrate only 1080p...

A $99 device that could handle full Bluray .m2ts would be a dream come true (a miracle). It has to be able to handle 1080p p2p scene releases and your own H.264 encodes, but i highly doubt it will handle raw VC-1 .m2ts files straight off the disc. Maybe raw H.264 bluray files will play, but then wi-fi is always a problem. Sometimes I wonder if I should stop buying Bluray discs and just start pirating scene encodes instead, i hate my conscious. Can't wait to put it the test regardless!

Thought I'd kick off the XBMC on ATV3 thread.

Does anyone know of any plans to get XBMC running on the ATV3? Any ideas how well it will run? I don't know that they updated any hardware, but it now has support for 1080p output.

Thanks.

It's only single core, says so on the spec page.

So safe to say that for instance a xvid/divx 720p/1080p on a ATV will never happen? Eek

The tech specs on that page don't seem to be updated yet. It still says that it outputs at 1280x720, which doesn't match up with the announcement.

Edit: nevermind, they're updated now. Single core A5 indeed. Davilla or Memphiz may be able to weigh in on what performance benefits (if any) we'll see.

So the new ATV3 is an iPad2 without a screen. Not that bad, but i'll stay with my ATV2s.

Nope the iPad 2 had a Dual-Core A5 chip.
