Unable to connect to remote server
#1
Hi all!

Sorry for being yet another person with no clue about this, but after using XBMC without a problem for almost a year, I've started to have issues connecting to the scrapers when trying to update the movie and tv libraries. Here's the debug log. http://pastebin.com/AXvG4Q22

Can anyone help?

Cheers

Try to change your DNS Server (in the network settings of your OS).
I suggest using 8.8.8.8 (one of googles DNS Server).

Please report back if that helps.

Unfortunately, that's the DNS I'm using anyway Confused with 8.8.4.4 as the secondary DNS.

Are you using a proxy server or do you have any other extraordinary network setup?

Please keep pinging "services.tvrage.com" while retrying to use "script.tv.show.next.aired". After that please check if you still have "IOError: [Errno socket error] (11004, 'getaddrinfo failed')"-Errors.
I had another look to you xbmc log and found much more other network errors:
Code:

So there are:
- python errors when trying to open a webpage (not in this snippet..)
- xbmc errors when trying to open addons.xml.md5 files
- xbmc errors when trying to load the rss-feeds

Its not just a DNS-Issue - looks like a general network problem...

I'm not using any sort of proxy or weird network setup, and what's weird is I've never had this problem before despite using XBMC for a while.

How do I go about following the instructions you've just given? I'm still learning here I'm afraid.

Thanks for this so far though!

Is the station you use for browsing the forum the same like your xbmc runs on?

Please check your xbmc network settings - no proxy should be enabled.

Can you open the following websites with your browser (with the station xbmc is running on)?

http://feeds.feedburner.com/xbmc
http://mirrors.xbmc.org/addons/dharma/addons.xml.md5

is the second link supposed to come up withf2fa3c9191a9b0048758b7eb623616bf? if so yes all 3 work from the same station as xbmc runs on. I suspect I may have enabled a proxy-related setting in xbmc while trying to get the remote working recently. I'm off out now, but I'll check it again when I get home and report back here either success or fail.

Cheers!

Yes, the response is correct.

Then I guess it will be the proxy related setting in the xbmc settings - please rebort back if it works again...

I feel such a fool. Just got home and sure enough, "Use an HTTP proxy server to access the internet" was for some reason checked.

It's working fine, now. Thanks for the help Sphere!
