cancelling operation while stuck on "Working..."
#16
Hi guys, I've been using Kodi since Eden on windows and android mainly and the progress that has been made is exceptional.
However one problem that has always remained is the "waiting" loop in which kodi will be trying to do something and hangs on the "waiting" dialog. Pressing the back key /esc will make the woosh sound effect, but nothing will happen and the dialog will remain sometimes for minutes, or until kodi is killed.
I have seen this on different operating systems, on different builds and in different operations, and am not the only one who has noticed the same behaviour
( https://www.reddit.com/r/kodi/comments/2...king_loop/ ). And this thread dating back to 2012 ( http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=126672 )
Does anyone know if this is ever likely to be fixed, or what the problem is?
Thanks

Opened a new thread here about the issue: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=255908 This is a core problem that has been going on for some time.

Post a debug log (wiki) showing the problem occurring without using one of the Banned_add-ons (wiki) and someone may be able to help.

That would associate this issue to a specific addon or system, which isn't the case. Myself and others have observed this happening across multiple operating systems, addons and operations. A good way to get it to work is to start streaming a BBC iplayer program, or from a NAS server while away from home and cancel the stream while it says "working". The dialog will often stay there.

We don't support any installation contaminated with banned add-ons (wiki), even if they don't appear directly related to the issue.

But if your system is clean then post the debug log (wiki) as @popcornmix suggested and we can try to help.

Without a debug log how do you thinks anyone's going to know what's happening?
If you're saying it happens across multiple legitimate add-ons then a log showing that can't hurt.

I agree. this issue is there at least since i starting using Kodi which was around Frodo and it is not add on specific.

There is a need for some kind of universal kill switch to stop whatever Kodi is doing to get out of working loop.
Using "X" or "stop button" even freezes the Working animation and i have to end task kodi and ENTER ESCAPE or RETURN doesn't do anything in Working loop

It happens few times a month and i'll make sure i post a log next time it happens

Thanks

Something approaching a "universal cancel current operation" or, failing that, or in addition, "kill current add-on and return to main menu" would be incredibly user-friendly and useful.

Then providing a debug log (wiki) of the issue could be way more helpful
