No audio on Live 11.10 for VIA vt8237

to fix sound with the new XBMC live if you have a VIA onboard sound card. via vt8237a audio chipset specifically

Open the file /etc/default/grub
find the line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
modify it like
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash pci=use_crs"
save the file (/etc/default/grub)
after saving the file I ran update-grub like
sudo update-grub
reboot

reset your XBMC audio settings and reboot again.

I have sound once again. Not a XBMC bug, but a bug from Ubuntu. I really wish they would stop using ubuntu for the platform of the LIVE distro. ubuntu has turned into a bugfest.

Thanks for info.

Afraid I am a newbie and cant seem to save the file because of permissions. Even if I change them!

A search says the grub file is different to past grubs!

Any ideas?

OK managed to Save config and it still boots ;-))

When you say Reset XBMC Audio is the VIA supposed to show? It doesn't so what do I reset?

I can now get sound from the desktop e.g. YouTube but nothing from XBMC ;-((

Cheers
