UI sounds but no movie sound
#1
I went to watch my first movie with XBMCuntu last night and at the top of the screen it said "unable to initialize audio". I get UI sounds just fine so sound itself is working. What could the problem be? I'm using a Zotac ID36 connected to a Sony TV via HDMI.

I can't figure out why menu sounds would work but not movies. Could it have something to do with which passthrough device I pick? Do I need to cycle through and try each one? Do I need to restart XBMC after changing it?

I came across this post regarding this issue. Where exactly do I put this string though?

I stumbled upon this post...

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1017191

That says to use a custom string, which is...

alsa:hdmi:CARD=NVidia

Could you post, if exists, the XBMC crash log? You can find it in /home/xbmc

It doesn't crash, it just give me the message and plays the movie with no audio. Should I post it anyways?

Went back to Windows. Ubuntu version doesn't seem to be agreeable with my hardware.

Same problem here. I've had to deactivate die UI-Sounds. Probably because the UI-Sound was Stereo und Ubuntu/XBMC couldn't switch to 5.1 (passthrough to Optical-Output) because the Sound-Engine (or whatever) was still in use at the moment the movie started. But thats a problem only an developer could "research" i think Undecided

If you're getting an error saying that it failed to initialize audio, post your ~/.xbmc/temp/xbmc.log file so we can see what kind of errors it's giving you when trying to initialize the audio.
